In the acute form, the animal swallows with difficulty and may vomit occasionally. The head may be extended, and manipulation over the throat region may elicit a response of pain. The tonsils themselves may appear red and congested, and exude a discharge of puslike character. When the attack is mild, the only symptoms may be that the dog eats its food slowly and swallows with caution. In severe attacks, there may be complete lack of appetite, depression, and fever.
SQUEAKY TOYS. For these toys, choose the rubber over the stuffed toys for durability and to avoid synthetic materials. These little noisemakers are good for training your dog’s hunting skills.
Vitamin Bl is another vitamin essential to the maintenance of dog health. Diets that are deficient in this vitamin may result in loss of appetite, failure to excrete regularly, lowered resistance to infection, paralysis of the hind legs, possibly running fits (or—as it is variously known—fright disease, barking fits, furious fits, canine hysteria), convulsions, and death. The main sources of this vitamin are meat, brewer’s yeast, and wheat germ. The latter two substances are commonly incorporated in commercial dog foods to provide the amount of vitamin Bl necessary to prevent possible deficiencies. Dogs that are fed table scraps usually get sufficient quantities of this vitamin to meet their needs. It is therefore apparent that deficiencies of this vitamin can occur only under fairly extreme cases of improper nourishment, which means that vitamin Bl deficiencies are not too commonly met with in household pets whose owners make even a minimal effort to feed them properly.

If the animal insists on getting on furniture anyway, it should be grasped by the scruff of the neck, told briskly, “No, No, No,” and put down. The obedient pet will grasp the idea very quickly. With particularly stubborn dogs, more drastic measures may be attempted. Commercial repellents, which may be bought at any pet shop, may be tried. If these do not do a satisfactory job, a loaded mousetrap may be placed under some newspapers in a favorite chair. When the animal hops on the chair, the loud, sudden noise of the closing trap will serve as a surprise that will deeply impress the animal. After a few shocks of this kind, the animal will be extremely wary before it goes on furniture. Soon it will simply get out of the habit.

Signs and symptoms of parvovirus differ among dogs infected by such. Unfortunately, some dogs show very few symptoms. Some do not show any at all. Typically, parvovirus causes severe enteritis, or an inflammation of the intestines. This further leads to vomiting, diarrhea – which may be bloody, dark feces, dehydration, and lethargy. This virus will affect any breed, sex and age of dog. The virus manifests itself more severely among younger puppies. There are a few breeds that are more susceptible to parvovirus than others. Among them are Rottweilers, Labradors, and Doberman Pinschers. Puppies six months and below usually manifest a more serious form of the disease.

The conscientious pet owner should always seek professional advice regarding any growth that may appear on the animal, for neglect in this instance might easily lead to death, while timely surgical intervention can very often save the animal’s life.
