BIOTIN: This vitamin is not important in dogs since only minute quantities are required and these are readily available. Lack of biotin results in a progressive paralysis.
Dogs grow to various sizes. The Irish wolfhound, for example, stands about 32 inches high at the withers, or top of the shoulders. The Chihuahua, however, stands about five inches.
It has often been suggested that the most effective way to housebreak a dog is to rub the animal’s face in the excretory matter whenever it has made a mistake. While the effectiveness of this procedure can hardly be denied, it is at best a barbarous, unclean, and unnecessary practice. Consistently good results will be obtained by the painless method described above.

Otitis is usually the result of improper ear hygiene. Incompletely rinsedaway soap, hair mats, ear wax, fleas and other parasites may start the condition. If dirty ears are improperly cleaned or not cleaned at all, the accumulated filth causes an irritation of the ear membrane. The animal shakes its head violently and intermittently digs at its ears. The lowered resistance of the irritated membrane predisposes it to infection because the everpresent germs are always ready to do their damage when lowered resistance gives them an opportunity to do so.

The importance of exercise for the maintenance of the general well being and happiness of the dog has been highly overrated. The complexity of modern civilization has imposed such severe restrictions on the exercising of dogs that it is often quite impractical or totally impossible to give the dog the amount of exercise that, according to its natural attributes, it would seem to require. In spite of this, the adjustment of these animals has been so remarkable that they seem not to have suffered any substantial loss of vitality, nor has their longevity been materially effected.
