Normally, dogs should not be bathed more than twice a month. The meticulous owner who keeps his animal thoroughly combed out at all times may find that the dog’s appearance can be maintained rather creditably by bathing it only once a month. On the average, however, it will be found more advantageous to abide by the bimonthly routine.
A dog should be taught to remain alone quietly from the earliest possible age. If the dog is made to sleep in its own bed in a separate room, this will assist materially in the training because in this way the dog already starts to become accustomed to staying alone. In any case, the specific technique to eliminate the barking and whining when the animal is left alone is quite simple. Place the dog in its bed. Walk out of your house or apartment, slam the door and remain outside a short distance from the door to hear what happens.
Otitis is usually the result of improper ear hygiene. Incompletely rinsedaway soap, hair mats, ear wax, fleas and other parasites may start the condition. If dirty ears are improperly cleaned or not cleaned at all, the accumulated filth causes an irritation of the ear membrane. The animal shakes its head violently and intermittently digs at its ears. The lowered resistance of the irritated membrane predisposes it to infection because the everpresent germs are always ready to do their damage when lowered resistance gives them an opportunity to do so.

VITAMIN B2, RIBOFLAVIN: This is another essential vitamin. Deficiencies of this vitamin may result in certain forms of liver trouble, anemia, muscular weakness in the hind legs; dermatitis on the hind legs, chest, and abdomen; and sore eyes. The best natural sources of vitamin B2 are liver and yeast. Other excellent sources are soy flour, beans, eggs, wheat germ, cheese, and milk. Dogs that are fed meat and milk or a standard dog food will rarely be affected by a deficiency of this vitamin. It is therefore fairly uncommon in the wellkept house dog.

Vitamin A is essential to the maintenance of health in the dog, and when the diet is deficient in this substance, a variety of disease manifestations may ensue. These disease conditions will occur only when the deficiency is well marked.
