Whether meat is fed cooked or raw depends both on convenience to the owner and on the preference of the animal. It will make no difference, however, to the health of the dog which way the food is fed.
Dental fistula is a dental ailment so distinctive as to deserve special mention. It concerns an infection of the socalled carnassial teeth—the very large teeth of the upper jaw that can be seen by pulling back the corner of the lip on each side of the dog’s mouth. One carnassial tooth grows on either side of the upper jaw. The roots are so deep that, when they are infected, the infection extends into the sinuses of the skull and forms an abscess, which sooner or later breaks out in an area directly underneath and about an inch away from the eye. Such a formation is called a fistula, for a fistula simply means a pathway within the body tissue along which pus travels.
The public has been subjected to so much misleading information about vitamins by the press, radio, and television that it would be well to give a few notes of reliable scientific data about them.

However, sweets comprise one of the good things of life. To have a wee bit once in a while is a simple and modest pleasure. There is no point in depriving the animal of it.

Proper feeding will vary with the age, disposition, and state of health of the individual animal. Animals that present early symptoms of certain degenerative diseases will be fed differently from those that do not present such symptoms. Certain dogs will demand greater vitamin supplements than others. Some will require larger quantities of meat protein, while with others, different sources of protein may prove more desirable. If these feeding requirements are met, longevity is almost sure to be enhanced. Any modification in ration should always be determined by the veterinarian.
