The fact that a dog remains alone does not mean that the animal likes it or prefers it. It simply has learned to stay alone and take it, whether it likes it or not. The dog has learned another lesson in obedience and does not bark for the simple reason that it does not want to provoke the disapproval of its master.
Diuretics—drugs that will stimulate urination—are given in the form of ascorbic acid and certain arsenicals. The most effective measure is to have the abdominal fluid tapped, giving the animal immediate relief, so that it will get along very well for a period of from two weeks to about two months, depending upon the degree of tissue destruction. Within this period the abdominal fluid will usually return, at which time the animal must be tapped again. The owner is advised that the animal may pass away at any time either during or between tappings.
Healthy dogs can easily acquire the disease in vaccination clinics, animal shelters, veterinary hospitals, local parks, kennels, dog shows, grooming parlors or animal boarding places with infected dogs. Crowded situations where the air is very warm and ventilation is poor are a potential source of kennel cough.

A mother dog protects her puppy around six to twelve weeks after birth. She has passed on her immunity mechanism to her puppies by providing disease-fighting antibodies in her first milk. This is called the Maternally Derived Antibody (MDA) or known as “passive immunity.” After those weeks of immunity, MDA fades and the puppy is left to protect itself and soon, vaccination takes over the mother’s role in providing protection.

When the animal becomes strong enough and if the weather is agreeable, the animal is broken to the outside. With older pups, or with pups acquired during the warm seasons, it will save time to break the animal directly to the outside.

In regard to meat: beef, lamb, or horsemeat are generally considered best, while pork is usually not recommended. Lamb or horsemeat are best served cooked, while beef may be fed either cooked or raw.
