Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder in which the sufferer stops breathing during sleep. Many sufferers can stop breathing for a few seconds or more than a minute. The frequency of cessation of breath can be a few times a night to more than a hundred. Each time the person stops breathing the reflexes in the body cause the person to wake up. For people who have sleep apnea this disease is very disruptive to their sleep. They usually wake in the morning not feeling irritable and unable to concentrate. Without enough quality sleep sufferers can have problems at their job or with their personal relationships.

Sleep apne is usually caused by an obstruction in the airways, usually by the tongue or collapse of the throat muscles. Although sleep apnea can be extremely disturbing to quality sleep, there are many effective techniques to treat this ailment.

One of the most popular ways to treat sleep apne is a CPAP which stands for continuous positive air pressure. This is a mask like device that fits over the persons face and forces oxygen into the lungs. Many sufferers swear by this device and it has been shown overwhelming effective in the majority of people that use it. This device enables the person to receive oxygen throughout the night helping them to get quality sleep.
